Strategic Editing
Thinking with you. Writing for purpose.
THE PROPOSITION
Strategic Editing Begins Before the Sentence
Conventional editing asks: How can this be expressed better?
Strategic Editing begins with a different question: What needs to be communicated for this text to achieve its purpose?
Integrated Strategic Editing looks beyond language to the wider communication situation—its purpose, audience, context and intended outcome. We combine analytical, strategic and editorial thinking to determine what the communication needs before deciding how best to express it.
Because better language cannot compensate for missing thinking—and a polished text is not necessarily an effective one.

THE WIDER QUESTION
Thinking Beyond the Text
Communication problems do not always begin with the words.
Important information may be missing. Reasoning may remain implicit. Context may be incomplete. The material may be clear but misaligned with its audience or purpose. Valuable implications may exist without ever reaching the page.
Integrated Strategic Editing looks for these gaps—and helps address them.
FOUNDER-LED COLLABORATION
Thinking With You
Strategic Editing was founded by Cristina Opran, whose multidisciplinary career has spanned clinical research and information management, quality systems and consultancy, business development and operations, and academic research editing.
Across these environments, she repeatedly encountered the limits of working only on what had already been written. Integrated Strategic Editing developed from the recognition that authors sometimes need more than editorial intervention: they need genuine intellectual collaboration on the communication itself.
We therefore work not simply on your material, but with you on the thinking behind it.
WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER
How We Can Work Together
Strategic Review
A strategic assessment of what is working, what is missing and what may be preventing your communication from achieving its purpose.
Strategic Editing
Direct intervention in the content, structure and language, informed by the wider purpose, audience and context.
Strategic Writing
Development of new communication from the underlying objectives, information and ideas—not simply from a pre-existing draft.
INTEGRATED STRATEGIC EDITING
A Wider Lens on Communication
Depending on what your project needs, Integrated Strategic Editing can bring together context- and content-gap analysis, systems thinking, developmental and language editing, information architecture, communication strategy, and discoverability or persuasion principles where appropriate.
The method follows the problem—not the other way around.
Let’s Think It Through
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly defined brief. If you know what you are trying to achieve—or simply know that the communication is not yet doing what it needs to do—we can start there.
